New Charges Filed in Connection with Deadly Fire

BRADFORD, Tenn. - New charges have been filed against a man who allegedly started a fire that resulted in another person's death.

The fire happened on January 26 at a home in the 400-block of U.S. Highway 45 South in Bradford. Robert Lee Phillips was previously charged with reckless burning in the incident. Police have now added a charge of felony vandalism over $10,000.

Phillips, 33, of Enville, remains in the Gibson County Jail. In addition to the charges he faces in connection with the fire, police said there is also a pre-existing probation revocation out of McNairy County that is still pending.

A status hearing in the case is now set for March 19 in Gibson County General Sessions Court in Trenton.

Police reported that formal identification of the decedent is still pending. That identification is expected to take an extended period of time.

The investigation into the fire is continuing and other charges may be filed at a later date.
