JACKSON Tenn.- Northeast Middle School hosted a special anti-gang event Monday night, after several parents expressed concern for their children.

The school partnered with Jackson Police's Gang Task Force for the event, and were surprised to see only two parents show up.

School officials said it is important for more parents to get involved to keep kids away from violence.

"As a school, we can educate and we can help parents know their role and their part. Really, it does take everyone in the community to stand against things like gangs and violence," said the school social worker Meghan Larson.

The school is working on other events to educate parents about gangs.
