Woman Dead, One in Custody After Early Morning Shooting
JACKSON, Tenn. - Police investigate an early morning shooting of a young college student Thursday. An eyewitness claims it was an accident.
Jackson Police have the man they say is responsible in custody.
Arterrance Hall said he was minding his own business in his bedroom when all of a sudden his friend said "I shot her," Hall said she looked down at her leg and started hollering. "She didn't even know she was shot at first," said Hall.
Around 3:00 a.m. Thursday, Hall claimed his two friends were rough housing in his apartment. He said as his friend, 25, was getting up the gun on his hip went off, striking 20-yearold Kimberly Lindsay from Indiana. Friends said she was living in Jackson while going to school at Lane College.
"Right now we do believe we have the man who we believe is responsible in our custody. We're still trying to figure out the circumstances that surround this shooting," said Jackson Police Lt. Tyreece Miller.
According to Hall, Lindsay was shot in the leg but the bullet came out through her chest.
"She was screaming as it happened. She was alive when I saw her last time, I saw her and then she got to the hospital and it was over," said Hall.
Police said Lindsay died from her wound eight hours after being taken by her friends to the hospital. Hall is confident it was an accident.
"He shouldn't have been playing with the gun in the first place. It went off by itself," claimed Hall.
Though the 25-year-old man who owned the gun is in police custody, no charges have been filed against him.
"He's being held for questioning and we're just trying to figure out how it came about," added Lt. Miller. Hall added that before all of this happened, his friend was supposed to go to court today on drug-related charges.
