Open Enrollment to End Most Elementary Magnet Programs

JACKSON, Tenn.- There are some changes coming in open enrollment for Jackson-Madison County School students.
According to school officials one thing that will change is that open enrollment will end magnet schools for the most part in elementary schools.
However, the magnet title will remain in their school name and the schools will have specialized programs. The only true magnet school will be Bemis Montessori. All other schools will have zoned students and will all open enrollment as space is available.
"In the past, we've had magnet schools that had restrictions on them where you could only live in certain zones to be able to attend those schools. But open enrollment opens those schools to all students,"
said Kimberly Butler,\administrator for school registration.
There are two meetings planned to allow parents to learn and ask questions about the changes.
