JACKSON, Tenn.- Open enrollment seems to be a very popular option for parents in the Jackson-Madison County School System.
At the meeting, hosted Wednesday night by the school district, more than 150 parents gathered to learn more open enrollment.
In a nutshell, the district is opening available slots at all schools to interested students in the district via a lottery system. That means if yo do not want your child going to a school where you are zoned and there is room at another school you prefer, you can apply for that school's lottery.
"It gives (my daughter) a chance to explore the different opportunites at different schools in Madison County, instead of just sticking her in the school that we're closest to," said parent, Beth Howell.
"I'm trying to figure out which school would be best for (my daughter) to go to help further her career and get into college and giver her some college credits," said parent Kimberly Miller.
If you were unable to make it to Tuesday night's informational meeting, look for the link for the school district's website, by going to the "Seen on 7" section of wbbjtv.com. There you will find helpful information.
