Police Report Finding Drug Activity at Business, Three Arrested
JACKSON, Tenn. – Three people were arrested after police surveilled a business and reportedly found drug activity on the premises.
According to a news release, investigators from the Jackson-Madison County Metro Narcotics Unit were conducting surveillance on the business at 537 East Chester Street, Saturday, after receiving a report of suspected drug activity at that location.
Police said they made contact with Jeffrey Kennedy, Lionel Moss and Marcus Hurt as they were leaving the business. Investigators reportedly found that Jeffrey Kennedy was in possession of approximately 186.2 grams (6 ½ ounces) of marijuana, 255 Hydrocodone pills, a loaded .357 Magnum handgun, digital scales and packaging materials.
Police took Kennedy into custody and seized four cell phones, $4,677 and a cashier check for more than $7,800 under the civil forfeiture laws of the Tennessee Drug Control Act because the items are believed to be the proceeds of drug sales. Investigators said the drugs seized in this case have an estimated street value in excess of $3,000.
Jeffrey Keith Kennedy, 29, of Jackson, was charged with possession of a schedule III controlled substance with intent to sell or distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to sell or distribute, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm in commission of a dangerous felony and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arraigned in Jackson City Court and was released from the Madison County Jail after posting a $40,000 bond.
Lionel K. Moss, 28, of Jackson, was charged with possession of marijuana and was issued a misdemeanor citation at the scene.
Marcus Dion Hurt, 41, of Jackson, was arrested on outstanding warrants.
