Police: Dyersburg Man Leaves Child in Car, Shoplifts
DYERSBURG, Tenn. -- A Dyersburg man appeared in court Friday after police say he left his baby son in the car while he went shoplifting, last week.
Stetson Swift, 27, went into a Walmart in Dyersburg on Dec. 27 and reportedly shoplifted. During his crime, his 2-year-old son was in his car.
According to the police report, the 2-year-old was out of his car seat and roaming freely throughout the car. The passenger window was also rolled down far enough to allow the child to fall out of the vehicle.
Swift's original charge of felony child abuse/neglect was amended to a misdemeanor, which he pleaded guilty to. He was ordered to 11 months and 29 days of probation and also ordered to have no contact with the child or mother
The child has been handed over to his mother. Walmart did not press charges because it was theft under $25.
