JACKSON Tenn.- The Jackson Police Department is investigating a Thursday afternoon shooting that killed one man.

Officers responded to the shooting at 173 Lealand Lane around 5 p.m. Officials said they found Devon Staten, 24, injured inside his home.

Staten was taken by ambulance to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 5:30 p.m.

A preliminary investigation has lead officers to believe Staten's girlfriend was approached by a masked man in an armed robbery attempt. Police said when she screamed for help, Staten ran outside and was shot.

JPD is searching for two suspects described as black men in their late teens to early 20s, both in dark clothing.

"We understand that people may be reluctant to talk, because they are afraid. What we would encourage them to do is to come forward and give us the tools that we need to find these people, and lock these people up," said Lt. Tyreece Miller of the Jackson Police Department.

Police are urging anyone with information to call Jackson Police at (731) 425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at (731) 424-TIPS.
