We are just days away from the start of the Miss Tennessee pageant in Jackson. This is a special year because it marks the 60th anniversary of the scholarship pageant.

Friday, crews at the Carl Perkins Civic Center were busy constructing the stage and set that will hold the 36 women. Each have already won a local preliminary pageant to make it to the competition.

Organizers say what spectators will see next week is the result of work that has been going on for months. "It's always amusing to me when somebody says, 'Oh, are you about ready to start working on the pageant?'" said Jane Alderson, Executive Director of the Miss Tennessee Pageant. "We've been working on the pageant for 12 months."

Contestants will begin arriving in the Hub City on Sunday. Preliminary competition at the Civic Center begin on Wednesday. The new Miss Tennessee will be crowned Saturday night.

Competition begins at 8 o'clock every night. Tickets are available at the Civic Center Box Office.
