Prescription Drug Take-Back Event Held in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. - Unwanted and unused prescription drugs can lead to abuse if put in the wrong hands, and local law enforcement officials said they want to put a stop to the problem before it starts.

The Jackson-Madison County Metro Narcotics Unit hosted a free event from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday that allowed residents to dispose of old, expired, unused medications safely.

It comes as part of a national effort to educate people about prescription drug abuse.

Local narcotics officials said they collected more than 125 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs at three different Jackson locations Saturday.

They said this is the fifth take-back event sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration since September 2010.
