UNION CITY, Tenn.- State officials gathered in Obion County, Wednesday to celebrate the completion of the new exit ramp on State Highway 22.

The project created a diamond interchange off of the highway to connect to the Everett Stewart Airport, which serves the Obion and Weakley County areas.

TDOT officials said the project increases safety by providing better access to the airport.

"Everyone knows that there is an economically distressed time in our state and in our state and in the country and we feel as the Department of Transportation, that better roads equal better jobs," said Lyndsay Botts with TDOT.

The project cost an estimated $6.8 million.
