School Board Member Announces Retirement

JACKSON, Tenn- The Jackson-Madison County School Board held their monthly meeting, Thursday night.
But a member of the school board made a surprise announcement they would be retiring. Board member Maria Mitchell announced she is stepping down. She indicated she would stay with the board through July and is moving to India be with her husband. There was no immediate word on who Mitchell's replacement would be.
Thursday night's meeting would also mark the last one for school Superintendent Buddy White, who announced last year he would be retiring after two years of leading the system.
Doctor Verna Ruffin, who was hired earlier this year will officially become superintendent of schools July 1.
