Sheriff's Deputy Jailed in Kidnapping and Stabbing Investigation
Madison County Deputy Chad Lewis, 29, of Jackson, was arrested early Wednesday morning. He is accused of kidnapping his 25-year-old ex-wife, handcuffing her and stabbing her in the chest.
Investigators said, Lewis used his unmarked Madison County Sheriff's Department squad car in the kidnapping, then switched vehicles before the stabbing.
Those who live near Lewis said he has always been a good neighbor. "I met him a couple of times we talked at the mailbox," said Gary Peterson.
Police believe Lewis kidnapped his ex-wife from her Jackson home, then drove her several places against her will. He is believed to have driver her to his home on Old Hickory Boulevard and putting her in his pick up truck. Officers said it was in his truck while driving near the Coca Cola plant that Lewis stabbed her in the chest.
Lewis then is believed to have driven her 40 minutes to an ambulance station in Henderson. It was there that paramedics told police they observed the victim in handcuffs with a stab wound to her chest.
"The thing that bothers us, is that he bypassed the nearest hospital when she had suffered a life threatening injury," said Miller.
Investigators said Lewis tried to explain his ex-wife's injuries. "He showed up with a story, that story is contradicted by evidence, and that's why he is in custody right now," said Miller.
Police said Lewis is expected to be officially charged after further investigation.
Sheriff David Woolfork told 7 Eyewitness News, Deputy Lewis has been relieved from duty with pay pending the outcome of the criminal investigation. Woolfork added his department is conducting an internal investigation as well.
At last report, the victim was listed in stable condition at The Med in Memphis.
