Dozens of Milan High School students spent their lunch breaks Tuesday learning about the Civil Rights Movement.
It is part of Milan High's month-long program to celebrate Black History Month.
The students watched a video about the children's march for Civil Rights in Birmingham, Alabama in 1963.
They even got to Skype with one of the participants, Rev. Gwen Webb-Appling, who was arrested for marching when she was just 14 years old.
"As time has passed a lot of times we take for granted that our students know about these types of things, that they know what a struggle it was for African Americans in the United States, especially in the South," said Government and Economics teacher Cindy Tatum.
Organizers told 7 Eyewitness News they are glad the students got to watch the video and ask Appling questions, saying many people do not even know that the children's march took place.
