JACKSON, Tenn. - Some area students pitched in to give local veterans Christmas presents during the holiday season.

Students at Northeast Middle School have been collecting small gifts for local veterans living at the Bill Manning Tennessee State Veterans Home on Humboldt for two weeks.

Ms. Clark's and Ms. Lofton's sixth grade classes have filled nearly 90 holiday bags full of socks, lotions, and tooth brushes.

"I think we should give back what they gave to us because some of them don't get much for Christmas," said Jessica Peterson.

"Most of them, they don't have any families left and I think that's sad because some people deserve families and they don't even have any," said Shakira Perry.

Northeast Middle School teachers and students plan to deliver the gift bags Wednesday afternoon.
