Suspect and Victim Arrested After Early Morning Shooting

7 Eyewitness News Staff

An early Monday morning shooting along Old Hickory Blvd. has landed both the shooter and the victim in jail and has another man on the run.

Officers arrived at the Hartland Place Apartments just before 12:30 a.m. and found a man lying in the yard with a gunshot wound to the back of his left leg.

Matthew Ladewig, 44, was hospitalized but released a few hours later. He was arrested as soon as he was discharged. He faces a count of simple domestic assault. Officers say he hit his girlfriend in the face when he found her inside Michael Cole's apartment.

When Ladewig was leaving the apartment, police say Cole fired a shot with a shotgun, hitting Ladewig in the leg. Officers said Jonathan Woodruff was also in the apartment and fired at Ladewig with a handgun but did not hit him.

Woodruff took off before officers arrived. If you have seen him, call the Jackson Police Department at (731) 425-8400 or CrimeStoppers (731) 424-TIPS.

Both Woodruff and Cole face a charge each of aggravated assault.

Cole and Ladewig will make their first appearance in Jackson City Court, Tuesday at 8 a.m.
