Suspicious Package Found Near Federal Courthouse in Downtown Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn.- Several Jackson streets were blocked off early this afternoon after initial reports that a suspicious package was found near the Federal Courthouse on South Highland Avenue.

Jackson Police, along with several government agencies, rushed to the scene and corndoned off the area and closed several streets surrounding the courthouse.

Investigators told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News the call was received around 1:30 p.m. and the suspicious package was found.

Jackson Police told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News that the package found actually contained components for an explosive device that were being shipped to the Federal Courthouse. Those components were part of an investigation being made by federal authorities.

Police said the area was cleared around 2:40 p.m. and the streets surrounding the courthouse were reopened.
