Suspicious Fire Under Investigation at Abandoned School

JACKSON, Tenn. - Small fires all over the building are what Jackson firefighters said they found when they arrived at the former Jackson-Madison County alternative school on McCowat Street, Monday.

Crews reported finding a lot of heavy smoke when they arrived just before 6:00 p.m. The battalion chief said books and paper were set on fire.

According to firefighters, there was no electricity or utilities connected to the building. The abandoned structure, according to crews, would have been easy to get into.

An investigator was called to the scene. Further details are expected to be released in the coming days.
