TBI Seeking Help Finding Crockett County Murder Suspect

CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. – Authorities are seeking help from the public to try and find the person who killed a man in his own home, Thursday.

According to a news release from The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, investigators believe that Matt McKnight, 40, who was shot to death in his home on Gum Flat Road, got into an altercation with his attacker and the shooter may have suffered injuries from the fight.

The TBI said McKnight was found shot to death at approximately 1:15 p.m., Thursday. McKnight lived in the home with his parents and his body was discovered by his mother. It is believed that McKnight was shot to death during a home burglary.

TBI is requesting that if anyone knows of someone with unexplained injuries, who may or may not have received medical treatment, to contact authorities. In addition, if anyone saw suspicious activity or a suspicious vehicle between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. last Thursday near the residence where the burglary and murder occurred to contact the Crockett County Sheriff’s Office at 1-731-696-2104 or the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND (1-800-824-3463).

The 28th Judicial District Attorney General’s Office requested TBI to investigate the homicide. TBI agents are working the case with the Crockett County Sheriff’s Office.
