THP Hands Out Nearly 300 Citations

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Tennessee Highway Patrol kept extra busy handing out nearly 300 tickets in just one day.

THP told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News that troopers in 11 counties gave out 272 seat belt citations, and 15 child restraint citations, Friday.

Troopers said they are stepping up enforcement to cut down on fatalities.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation reports more than 60 percent of vehicle occupants killed in crashes in Tennessee were not buckled up.

Research shows it is almost nine times safer to wear your seat belt.
