JACKSON, Tenn.- The Jackson District of the Tennessee Highway Patrol said New Year's Eve and New Year's Day was a busy time for troopers.

Records showed in the 11 county district, troopers made eight arrests. There were six injury related crashes during that same time span, one of which involved a DUI.

No fatalities were reported in the Jackson District.

Statewide, the THP said 96 people were arrested on suspicion of impaired driving in the 16 counties participating in the "No Refusal" enforcement effort, during the New Year's holiday.

In the counties in West Tennessee where arrests were made between December 28 and January 1, Crockett County saw five DUI arrests, Carroll County had just one arrest and Chester County had no arrests.

Officials said seven people were killed in five crashes on New Year's Eve. That is up from last year's five deaths during the same period.
