TTA Reminds Truckers to Take a Break

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. - The Tennessee Trucking Association (TTA) took time to remind drivers of safety tips while on the highway with 18-wheelers, Friday.

Officials educated drivers on the dangers of the "No Zones" or large blind spots around the front, back and sides of big trucks. According to highway officials, 75 percent of all truck related wrecks are caused by the smaller vehicle. A third of those wrecks occur in the "No Zones."

Truckers say the best way to avoid high way crashes is to be aware of your surroundings. "When you're traveling, it's best to go on around the truck instead of lingering beside the tractor trailer," said Edmond Sorrell, Director of Safety for the Tennessee Trucking Association. "Speed up a little bit and go on around the truck or back off and stay behind."

The Tennessee Highway Patrol also participated in the safety event.
