Residents in Trenton came out for the Taste of Africa.The festive event was held at the National Guard Armory. Admission was ten dollars to sample the food and twenty for a buffet.

The Taste of Africa featured Nigerian food and food from countries all over the continent of Africa.The event had foods like jallof rice, beef stew, and fried plantain. Those who came out had a chance to enjoy not only food but traditional African music and fashion too.

Organizers said the goal of events like these are to educate other people about their culture.

"People look at Africa as if there is nothing good there, but today we are proving to them that they can have a good healthy meal," said organizer Oladipupo Sangode.

All the money raised will go to the West Tennessee Family Life Center in Dyer. The group hopes to raise $1.5 million for the center.
