Tennessee Seniors Among Least Active in the Nation
This week is Active Aging Week, aimed at encouraging senior citizens to exercise more. However Tennessee seniors are among the least active in the nation.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Tennessee ranks 49th for older adults not engaging in physical activity.
Local fitness experts say working out for just 30 minutes a day can help reverse most health issues associated with aging. Senior citizens should find workouts that correspond with their abilities. Experts said seniors can do several workouts sitting down and in the water to take pressure off the joints.
Local resident Lynda Brown says exercise has transformed their life.
"I don't feel 65 when I get out there to go working, I feel like I'm so young. When I get out there in that pool, it's so exciting. I mean I have a great time," said Brown.
