JACKSON Tenn.- A single vehicle crash in Haywood County on Tuesday injured three Lane College students on their way back for the school's spring semester.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol released the names of the driver and passengers, Wednesday. The driver, Denetrice Horton, 21, was killed in the crash. The other four passengers, Kristyn Bennett, and three Lane students, Pechone Jennings, Antoine Quin, and Korry Harris were all injured.

Troopers say the 2003 Mazda went down a steep embankment on
I-40 rolling several times. Officials said speed was a factor in the crash.

"I'm just really praying for her family, even though I didn't know the young lady, it is still really sad. For the other three students who go here with me, I'm just praying for them for a healthy recovery and that everything is o.k.," said Lane College Freshman Sandra Bullock.

The school released an official statement, "Lane College is in profound shock and pain regarding the news of an accident that took place in Haywood County involving five young persons in the vehicle. We morn the loss of a young lady, who did not attend Lane College and pray for a full and complete recovery for the others."

Lane officials also tell 7 Eyewitness News the three students were on their way to the college to register for the spring semester, and they are expected to return to class within the next few weeks.
