JACKSON, Tenn.-Students and staff at one Jackson-Madison County Middle School learn about Black History through a one-woman show.

Tigrett MiddIe School hosted actress Elizabeth Davidson for her performance of "Uncle Tom's Cabin."

The play is designed to teach about the creation and historical effects of Harriet Beecher Stowe's, "Uncle Tom's Cabin."

It was written to protest the institution of slavery and depicts vivid scenes in which slaves were beaten, killed, abused and families torn apart.

"It is very important to experience this so that we can have their full attention," said Jozelda Porter, an 8th grade teacher at Tigrett Middle School. "When they get ready to study it and in light of some of the things that have been going on in our nation today, it's very important that they understand about violence and how violence is wrong. So this will be part of our Black History Month."

With funding from grants, Davidson travels the country performing the play.
