The Trenton Police Department is praising the effects of tasers.
The non-lethal weapons were issued to officers in December. Since then, Chief Will Sanders says the weapons have been pulled fives times but discharged just once. In that instance, Sanders said, the suspect was wearing a heavy jacket and was not shocked but did surrender to officers.
The major benefit of the tasers, Sanders reports there have been no physical altercations between officers and suspects since December, thus no injuries. In that sense, he says the tasers have said the city in worker comp claims and medical bills.
