MARTIN, Tenn. - Fraternity brothers of Logan Hughes say they knew something was wrong when no one could find him Saturday. Jordan Teddleton and Eric Gilbert both went looking for him.

"All our brothers went out and were looking," Jordan Teddleton said. " We were trying to figure out what had happened. Trying to figure out where he was."

Friends say they last saw Hughes and coworker Daniel Fitzgerald Friday leaving the Opera House restaurant where they both worked. It's believed they were heading back to Fitzgeralds' home.

"I wasn't sure the severity of the situation, nobody was," Brian Gilbert said. "Nobody could have anticipated the outcome would be this bad."

Saturday afternoon Tennessee Highway Patrol found the bodies of Hughes and Fitzgerald along the side of Parker Levee Road. Hughes was driving his motorcycle when they lost control and went head on into a tree. Both were ejected from the bike.

"Logan was just trying to take care of a friend and carry him home," Teddleton said.

Troopers say neither victim was wearing a helmet.

"Both of them impacted the community a lot. All you have to do is look at Facebook and look at the newsfeed to see every single person is affected by this," Gilbert said.

Hughes' fraternity brothers say their coming together to comfort one another and say Hughes' ability to bring a smile to everyone's face makes honoring his memory just a little easier.

" I want to try and remember the happy moments," Teddleton said. "He was such a joker. Those are the memories I'm trying to think of. They keep me happy."

Gilbert says he's still in a state of shock but says it's given him a new appreciation for life because he says it could have happened to anyone.

"At this moment, this very moment I'm thinking to myself I'll do this for Logan," he said.

Tennessee Highway Patrol does not know the time of the crash but believes it happened late Friday night or early Saturday morning. Funeral arrangements for Logan Hughes and Daniel Fitzgerald have not been released at this time.
