Jackson, Tenn. - United Way of Tennessee held a special story hour for children today to promote their Raise Your Hand of Action Tennessee program.

The organization's initiative is meant to increase awareness of the importance of reading to children.

Thursday's event was held at the Jackson Madison County Library and featured Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist as a guest reader.

Organizers say the program's goal is to help set children on a strong path for the future.
