JACKSON, Tenn.- Students along with school leaders of an area school took time to honor those serving or who have served in the armed forces. The veterans were honored Wednesday at Malesus Elementary School in South Madison County.

School leaders said it was important for students to meet and know those who are working to preserve freedom and defend the nation when called to do so.

Around 100 veterans were at the ceremony.

"We hope that the kids can take away from our program the sacrifices that the veterans have made for us," said Billy Carey, Principal of Malesus Elementary School. "The honors that we have today, the priviliges that we have today."

The veterans said they are grateful that the school took time to honor them and to learn about the sacrifices veterans and their families made on a daily basis.
