The Women's Resource and Rape Assistance hosted it's Women of Empowerment Award Brunch Saturday.

More than 100 people came out to support and recognize women who have helped others either through their church, volunteering, or their profession.

The ceremony included a butterfly release. Organizers and attendees released about 150 butterflies in honor of individual victims and survivors. Organizers said events like these help to provide hope for those who have experienced some type of domestic or sexual violence.

"Even though we deal with some very negative crimes and harsh crimes, we try to help women overcome those things and not be bitter, and not live in that, and to go ahead and to go ahead and succeed in life," said WRAP Executive Director Margaret Cole.

Murinell Day Huntspon, Terri Kozlowitz, Carolyn Payne, Beth Bates, Katie Brantley all received awards at the ceremony.
