JACKSON, Tenn.-The Women's Resource and Rape Assistance Program joined activists around the world for the "One Billion Rising" campaign.
Events, such as marches across the country help make this the largest day of action in the history of Valentines Day. The goal of the global movement is to help end violence against women and girls.
The "One Billion Rising" program began as a call to action, based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime.
"Women themselves quite often feel that they are the blame for the violence that is being perpetrated against them and we want women to know that no its not o.k.," said Daryl Chansuthus, executive director of WRAP.
It was 15 years ago, Thursday that WRAP started its fight in demanding an end to violence against women.
