A special honor for a very special woman, Martha Britt, the late wife of 7 Eyewitness News Anchor, Tom Britt.

Friday morning, the Martha Britt Walking Track at Beech Bluff Elementary School was officially dedicated.

The former teacher and principal encouraged a healthy lifestyle by example, taking daily walks with Tom.

It was on one of their morning walks, in October 2005 that a hit-and-run driver ran over them, fatally wounding Martha. But through this track, her memory lives on.

"She was an avid walker, she was physically fit, she was always encouraging us to live a healthy lifestyle and we also wanted to encourage safety with her walking," said Principal Pam Betler of Beech Bluff Elementary. "Her utimely tragic death has brought things to our mind that we wanted to provide not only for our children but for the entire community,"

Benches were also dedicated to former teachers Mona Page and Cora Crutchfield .
