West Tenn. Idol Winner Announced

Jackson, Tenn. - Singing stars from all over West Tennessee battled it out Sunday afternoon for the title of West Tennessee Idol.

Ashley Mitchell of Greenfield was named the winner.

Mitchell gets $1,000, a trip to Panama City Beach, Fla., and will advance to the Tennessee state finals of the Texaco Country Showdown.

Organizers called the 10th annual contest America's largest country music talent search and radio promotion.

On Sunday, the 10 finalists performed two songs each in front of celebrity judges from Nashville.

They were narrowed down from 178 people who first tried out for the contest.
