JACKSON, Tenn.- West Tennessee joined the rest of the country Saturday by participating in "America Recycles Day 2012". HE

The city-wide event was held to promote household recycling in the community. Residents were provided with document shredding and a safe and convenient way to dispose of old and unused electronics.

Recycling those electronics, or e-cycling, helps ensure that heavy metals are safely managed and valuable materials reclaimed for the manufacture of new products.

Many of those who brought their items to the Jackson Fire Department's Training Center said it made them feel good to preserve the environment.

Sponsors of the event included "Keep Jackson Beautiful" and the City of Jackson.
