JACKSON, Tenn.- As we head toward the holiday travel season, retailers are hoping that falling gas prices translate into more jingle at the cash register.

According to gasbuddy.com, a price check around West Tennessee, Wednesday found prices ranging from $3.02 in south Jackson to $3.05 in Lexington. That is down considerably from prices earlier this summer.

WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News asked some shoppers if they plan to spend more and said having more money is always a good thing.

"The price of gas kept us from being able to travel so much last year and i don't know if I'm going to get to spend a lot more on presents but I'm definitely going to get to see my family, said Stacy Smith, an area driver.

"If fuel prices keep dropping or stays where its at we should have a fairly good Christmas for a change," said Johnny Davis another area driver.

According to AAA, many drivers are choosing to drive instead of fly for visits since household budgets remained tight.
