JACKSON Tenn.- Jackson Police arrested a north Jackson mother, accused of leaving her two small children home alone.

Police responded to a mobile home on Rolling Acres Drive, late Monday, after receiving a call from a worried Neighbor. Officials found two children, ages 2 and 4 asleep in a back bedroom with no adult at home.

"Kids don't know how to take care of themselves, and they need adults to help to that," said neighbor Marlene Kee.

Officials said their mother, Kristina Jean-Baptiste walked to another residence, and left the oven on as a heat source for the children. The mother told police the mobile home did not have heat, and left the oven door open to protect the children from the cold temperatures.

Jean-Baptiste is facing charges of aggravated child abuse and neglect.

"I just can't even imagine. Anything could have happened, a fire, the kids could have gotten burned, lots of things could have happened," said William Tramel.

Officials said if you are in need of assistance contact places such as, The Dream Center, RIFA, or Area Relief Ministries that have programs to help struggling parents.
