UNION CITY, Tenn. - A Weakley County man is behind bars, accused of stabbing a woman multiple times Thursday night in Union City.

Both the victim's friends and neighbors told 7 Eyewitness News they are upset, since she is now in critical condition.

"She always tried to help anybody, any way she could," Jaclyn Winters said. "I don't understand why anybody would do that to her."

Police said Willie Walker III, 25, stabbed a woman multiple times inside a home on North Division Street, then he took off in her car.

"She told me she had a friend coming over, but that's all I knew," Winters said.

According to investigators, a neighbor called 911 after hearing the victim scream next door.

Now they said Walker is facing charges for attempted first degree murder and felony murder vehicle theft.

"Your parents always say to be careful around who you're around. Now it makes me even more worried, especially living right there," said neighbor Sheree Kemp.

Police said Walker was arrested in Weakley County the next day on unrelated charges - one on simple domestic assault.

Residents told 7 Eyewitness News they are scared. Some said they even want to move away.

"I have a daughter and I don't feel like having a kid around here," said neighbor Andrea Goodlin.

Union City Police said they have issued warrants on Walker, since he is currently in the Weakley County Jail.

His next court appearance is October 15 in Weakley County General Sessions Court.
