HENRY COUNTY, Tenn. - There were some extra passengers on Henry County school buses Wednesday afternoon. Eight sheriff's deputies hopped on several yellow buses to catch safety violators.

"I think them being seen in general, supporting the school community and safety of the highway at large is awesome," said Keith Fertig.

Deputies followed the school buses in marked and unmarked cars as they dropped off students.

Sheriff Monte Belew said this is the third year they have participated in Operation Safe Bus.

"A lot of cars sometimes don't stop...following too close we have a lot of children that has to cross the road and it's very dangerous," said Michelle Brewer.

Authorities warned parents and kids even though the stop sign may be out, it is still important for kids to look both ways because some drivers do not pay attention.

Sheriff Belew said only one warning was issued, but no citations. He said the program will continue for the next month.
