2 former police officers testify before judge
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Two former Chattanooga Police Department officers have told an administrative law judge they did not use excessive force in restraining a halfway house inmate who was injured last year.
Adam Cooley and Sean Emmer were fired by Police Chief Bobby Dodd after reviewing the incident that left Adam Tatum with eight leg fractures on June 14, 2012. They are seeking reinstatement to the department.
Authorities said Tatum brandished a knife at another inmate and was later found to have cocaine in his system.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/12qvl0A ) reported that testimony established Emmer struck Tatum 44 times with a metal baton. The former officers said they followed their training.
The hearing resumes Wednesday.
