2 indicted in drug charges in Memphis
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Two New England men have been indicted on drug charges after authorities stopped them in May carrying cocaine and methamphetamine.
Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich says a grand jury charged 27-year-old Joel Vargas and 27-year-old Juan Martinez, both from Holyoke, Massachusetts, with unlawful possession of more than 300 grams of cocaine and unlawful possession with intent to sell methamphetamine
Police stopped the pair for speeding and improper lane change on May 23 on I-40 traveling eastbound near the Shelby County-Fayette County line.
Weirich says officers 12.5 pounds of cocaine and 30.6 grams of methamphetamine concealed under the center console of the rental vehicle.
Vargas also had $561 in cash in his possession. The money and drugs were seized.
