Bill would increase fine for not wearing seat belt
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Legislation that would increase the fine for not wearing a seat belt is scheduled to be heard by lawmakers on Tuesday.
The Senate version is to be heard first in the Senate Finance Committee, and the companion bill is scheduled for later in the House Transportation Committee.
Currently the penalty for not wearing a seat belt is $10. Under this
proposal, the fine would be $50.
Sponsors say the measure is simply to encourage people to buckle up.
