Church of God in Christ meetings stay in St. Louis
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Memphis' attempts to lure the Church of God in Christ's main annual meeting back to the denomination's headquarters city have failed.
According to The Commercial Appeal (http://bit.ly/12JSgov ), leaders of the denomination have signed a new three-year contract to hold their Holy Convocation and General Assembly in St. Louis through 2016. As many as 50,000 delegates attend.
Church Bishop Brandon B. Porter said St. Louis' 66,000-seat domed stadium, thousands more hotel rooms and better and cheaper air service were factors in the decision.
Memphis has also missed out on two smaller COGIC meetings. The Women's International Conference will be held in Louisville, Ky., in May. The church's annual youth conference is going to Kansas City next July.
