Kentucky Dorm Fire Request for Closed Hearing Withdrawn
The commonwealth's attorney prosecuting a deadly Murray State University dormitory fire has withdrawn his request for a closed hearing.
Prosecutor Mark Blankenship had requested an in camera hearing on charges against Jerry Walker in the 1998 fire that killed student Michael Minger and seriously injured Michael Priddy, also an MSU student.
Its reported that Friday, Blankenship withdrew his request. The newspaper filed a petition last week opposing the closing of the hearing in Calloway Circuit Court.
Walker was first tried in 2001 and a mistrial was declared after a jury was unable to reach a verdict. A new trial is scheduled for later this year.
