E. Coli Scare in Elementary School

By news admin

Health officials are investigating whether E. coli sickened two kindergarten students from central Kentucky and sent them to the hospital.
Lincoln County Public Schools Director of Operations Ronnie Deatherage says E. coli has been confirmed as the cause of illness in one child from Stanford Elementary School.
Deatherage said state and local health officials have examined the elementary school cafeteria, but didn't find a cause.
The two 5-year-olds became ill within the last few days. They are being treated at University of Kentucky Children's Hospital. A hospital spokeswoman says there is no information available on their condition.
E. coli is a common food-borne illness. Most cases are relatively mild and result in vomiting or diarrhea. In rare cases in young children, it can be life-threatening.
