Former Memphis officer charged with sexual battery

By news admin

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities say a former Memphis police officer has been indicted on a sexual battery charge after a motorist said she was groped during a traffic stop.

The Shelby County district attorney's office said Wednesday that a 30-year-old woman told police that Officer Meekose Evans stopped her car on Feb. 11 because her tag lights were out.

She said Evans put her in the back of his squad car and asked what she would do for him to avoid getting a ticket. She said that Evans then groped her.

The 30-year-old Evans also has been indicted on charges of official misconduct and official oppression.

Evans was fired in June. He is free on $20,000 bond. His lawyer, Ted Hansom, says he is entering a not guilty plea for Evans.
