KY Visa Office Evacuated for Suspicious Package

By news admin

A southern Kentucky office where visa requests are processed had to evacuate and workers were decontaminated after two suspicious packages turned up at the facility.
Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird says that three workers at the Kentucky Consular Center were isolated, decontaminated and medically cleared after opening the packages.
The Williamsburg consular office is one of two locations in the United States that process visa requests, with the Williamsburg location processing primarily non-immigrant visas.
Bird says the packages were delivered Tuesday morning and the workers were exposed to an unknown substance.
Bird said Hazmat officials will test the substance.
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell cancelled a planned stop at the facility Tuesday, but there isn't believed to be a connection between the packages and McConnell's visit.
