Kentucky Mercury Contamination
A blood pressure cuff broke in a Kentucky home, spilling mercury and sending an elderly Lexington woman to a hospital as a precaution.
The heavy metal spread through the home where she as being cared for.
Its reported that five other people, three of them children, were decontaminated after the incident on Tuesday. The family dog was also decontaminated.
Authorities also kept people who were exercising at an elementary school in place until the school was checked. Fire Department Battalion Chief Jeff Nantz said no contamination was found at the school, where two of the children from the house attended classes Tuesday.
A company that specializes in mercury cleanup was called into decontaminate the house.
