A 23-year-old Louisiana man initially charged with aggravated assault in connection with a Dec. 4, 2010, on-campus beating of a University of Southern Mississippi student has entered a plea to a reduced charge of misdemeanor assault.
Chase Gerard LaGarde, of Bush, La., entered a no contest plea to simple assault Monday in Forrest County Circuit Court.
Circuit Judge Bob Helfrich sentenced LaGarde to six months in the county jail with jail time suspended, provided LaGarde complete six months of "unsupervised good behavior probation."
The beating sent the victim, freshman Stuart Ramsey, to Forrest General Hospital with a concussion, a broken hand, lacerations requiring stitches and deep bruising.
