Man Charged with Smuggling Chinese Immigrants
A naturalized U.S. citizen has been charged in Mississippi with transporting two illegal Chinese immigrants who came to the U.S. through Mexico.
A criminal complaint in U.S. District Court in Jackson, Miss., said the illegal immigrants went from China to Hong Kong to Honduras. The complaint said they traveled through Mexico and crossed the border near Laredo, Texas.
Court records show the immigrants told authorities it cost about $85,000 to be smuggled from China to New York.
Court records say Ming Che Chen picked them up in Texas and was taking them to New York when a deputy stopped him Thursday on Interstate twenty in Rankin County, Miss.
Chen, a naturalized U.S. citizen from China, was arrested.
